From antique to shabby chic!

Hello Everyone, Okay so not too long ago the family and I went back to my husband old stomping grounds good ole Columbus, MS. While we were there we stayed with his mother of course and let me tell you stepping into her house was like stepping into an antique store. She had so many beautiful antiques but the one thing that caught my eye was this beautiful antique trunk. Of course, me being me I told her I loved it and she, in turn, replied really well you can have it. Y'all the excitement that shot through my body.

As soon as I got home and got my life back together I went in full force on this project. My husband and I went to the hardware store and picked up all that we needed. I will provide the information about all the tools, paint and any other information that needs to know below. This was not an extreme job for me and be reminded that this was the first time for me doing a project of this calibre. I always wanted to see if I could refurbish furniture. I'm talking about I talked about it for a long time to family and friends. I'm sure they were like girl okay but when? Well, ladies and gents here you go.

The process was not at all like I thought it would be. My husband sanded the trunk down it took him about a good hour and thirty minutes. I then cleaned the access sawdust off of it and I then painted a test coat. The test coat was just to see how the color would look. After the test coat dried I then proceeded with painting the trunk. It took me three days because of course, I had to let the coats dry. After the painting process, I didn't put a sealant over the top because I felt its just for decoration. I also kept some of the original color of the trunk to keep the antique feel. In the beginning, I was very indecisive about the color. At first, I was going to go with a nude color but then I thought no Vera you need a color that's popping just like you so that's where the orange came in at and I have to say I'm in love.

After all is said and done, more is said than done....
